Dr. Yaron Ariel is a senior lecturer at the Yezreel Valley Academic College Department of Communication.
He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Haifa (2009), an M.A. in Communication, and a B.A. in Communication and Political Science. His research interests include media usage patterns, political communication, online disruptions, and interactivity.
Yaron has been teaching in the Department of Communication at Yezreel Valley Academic College since 2003, and he served as the Head of the Department of Communication from 2019 to 2023.
In the past, he also taught at the Faculty of Management at the University of Haifa in the M.A. program in Information and Knowledge Management and the MBA programs (2011-2019). He also taught at Reichman University in the Sammy Ofer School of Communication and the M.A. program at the Lauder School of Government, Diplomacy, and Strategy, specializing in political marketing (2008-2016). He was involved in several projects at the Internet Research Center at the University of Haifa (2003-2010), including 'Wireless Jerusalem,' 'QSIA,' and 'Games For Executives.'
His research has been presented at local conferences (the Israel Communication Association, the Israel Sociological Society, the Israeli Political Science Association, the Israeli Association for Information Systems, the Chais Conference for the Study of Innovation and Learning Technologies, and the MEITAL Conference) and international conferences (ICA, IAMCR, AoIR, GOR, Wikimania, SMSociety, BledCom). His work has been published in several books (Permanently Online, Permanently Connected, Oxford Handbook of Internet Psychology, Cyberculture and New Media, and Psychological Aspects of Cyberspace) and in academic journals (Broadcasting & Electronic Media, Telematics & Informatics, Information and Management, Public Relations Review, Communication & Sport, International Journal of Communication, Media, War & Conflict).
His Ph.D. dissertation (written in English), titled "Interactivity, Cognition, and Value of Information: Interactive Information Exchanges in Online-mediated Environments," was supervised by Prof. Sheizaf Rafaeli.
His teaching areas include, among others, the following subjects: Methodology ("Quantitative Research Methods," "Statistics and SPSS Applications," and "Quantitative and Qualitative Methodologies in Communication"); Communication and New Media ("Digital Culture," "Social Media and Network Analysis," "Computer-mediated Communication"); Information Management ("Information and Knowledge in the Digital Age," "Management Information Systems"); Internet and Society ("Politics in the Internet Age," "Political Marketing on Social Networks," "Sociology of the Internet"); Patterns of Media Production and Consumption ("Broadcast Genres," "Media Usage Patterns"); and seminars on Artificial Intelligence and Virtual Reality.
